Immersion Weekend & Tucson Bead Show!

Want to have a learning vacation and visit the city that was named the #1 Art Destination (in the mid-sized city category) three years in a row?  Yep, we're talking about St. Petersburg, FL, where art abounds, the sands are powdery and the breezes are tropical!

Floral Cascade

Immersion Weekend, November 3 and 4, 12 pm to 5 pm - We start the weekend on Saturday with the Floral Cascade project where you'll learn the immersion process of torch-fired enameling, how to create fantasy flowers and how to master the persnickety enamel head pin.  We make some double-headed enamel head pins, called "twisty tendrils," that act as the baby's breath in our floral arrangement.

Saturday evening, we'll be dining on the roof top deck where Chef Jim (aka "hubby") will prepare something very tasty! Don't know what yet, but I have a very cushy arrangement ... I stay out of the kitchen and he plans and cooks the meals!

On Sunday, we begin Enamel Explorations!  We'll explore liquid enamels, stencils, graphite, acrylic enamels, watercolor enamels, decals (commercial and homemade), controlled over-firing, sgraffito, enamel threads, millefiori, and cat whiskers! Whew!

You will come to the workshops empty handed, but you won't leave that way.

Example of controlled over-firing
Nitty gritty - The cost of each workshop is $90, which includes the cost of all materials.  If you take both workshops, you'll receive a $20 gift certificate for Painting with Fire Studio.  Sound good?  But wait ... there's more.

All of the major hotel chains have a presence in St. Petersburg.  Staying at the downtown waterfront is wonderful because there's so much nearby, plus November is still low season, so prices should be good.  However, I've arranged a special price at America's Best Inn.  Here are the details:

America's Best Inn
342 3rd Avenue, North
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Phone - 727-894-3248
FAX - 727-895-8759
Toll Free - 1-866-219-7260
http://www.americasbestinnstpete.com

Sunday-Thursday - $65/night
Friday & Saturday - $75/night

Prices include a continental breakfast from 7-10am and an evening reception from 5-7pm.

Your innkeepers are Stephanie and Brian who met in Bavaria when Brian was a ski instructor.  Stephanie's from Bavaria. Sounds like a fairytale, doesn't it?  Of course, much has changed and they have two little ones now.  The hotel reminds me of many of the European ones in which I have stayed ... small TVs and big antiques! Please mention Painting with Fire to receive the rates quoted above.

Stephanie informs me that Saturday is starting to fill. The hotel has a 4.5 out of 5 star rating by its customers.

Once you get to the website for America's Best Inn, you'll find information about transportation from Tampa International Airport.  Much of St. Pete and the beaches are served by the Trolley, which is very reasonably priced.  We are located on Central Avenue, between 24th and 25th Street.  The fare from downtown St. Pete to Painting with Fire Studio, a distance of less than 2 miles, is 50 cents.

There are many good restaurants within walking distance of the hotel, but remember ... you're having dinner with us on Saturday night!

Tucson Bead Show!!!

We'll be in Tucson again this year for the Bead Show!  I'll be teaching some new workshops at To Bead True Blue.  Stay tuned for more details.  The dates are February 3 through February 8, 2013.  Please come and take a workshop or just stop and say hello at our booth!

Wow Barbara! This class sounds like FANTASTIC! What a great deal! Doubt if I can make it to Fl., but it's always nice to think it's a possibility, especially when it's 20 degrees up here in Nov! I know it will be great, you are the master!
Hope you are doing well. Hugs!

Would love to come but have a charity auction to attend on the 3rd...have much more spare time in April or May... hint hint! And our weather here is usually worse in the spring than it is in the fall!
