Spam ... and I'm not talking about meat in a tin!

I was going to write something positive about the Bead and Button Show, but I'm sure you've read all about it, not only here, but on other people's blogs.  What's got my attention today is SPAM!  I want to curse, but Blogger would probably cancel my blog!

Why in the hell can't the creators of Ning and Blogger do a better job at handling spammers.  I spend half my life erasing spammers' attempts at trying to become members of the Painting with Fire Ning or posting at my blog!!!! This prevents me from having time to interact with my Ning members or Blog followers!!!

I doubt that I'm the only one with this problem.  How are you guys handling this?  Ning says to create a questionnaire for prospective members to answer so that they can join.  Well, I've done that.  Since starting the group,  we've experienced an onslaught of spammers.  They've figured out that if they answer each of the three questions with just 2 letters, Ning will put them through for approval.

It's not that I don't catch these things and prevent spammers from commenting on my blog or becoming members of the Ning, but it takes up so much time that there's little left for creative work at the Ning or my Blog!

Help me with suggestions!  What are you guys doing to protect your sites?  Thank you!

What ticks me off is all my real comments end up in spam and annonymous posts even though I tag them as spam end up being posted... I find they come in waves... and certain blog posts get targeted.... No helpful solutions sorry!

Ugh, yes! It's infuriating! I resorted to having only registered users being able to comment, which of course makes it more difficult for my regular commenters to do so. Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this.

Same thing here Barb. I have all of the Anonymous ones filtered but I have to delete them by hand it takes up a lot of time. I think we are all feeling the pain of this. We want everyone to be able to comment but it comes with a price...you're right, I love your blog post, it's infuriating.
