Are you ready to learn something new?

Isn't that something we look forward to in the New Year?  Learning something new? Adding to our jewelry-making repertoire? Or maybe you want to perfect the skills you already possess.   Janice Fowler started this great month of giveaways at the Jewelry Artists Network .  Today is my day!  I'm excited to giveaway of one DVD.  You have your choice of "Torch-Fired Enamel Basics" or ...

"Creative Torch-Fired Enamel Techniques," which features the No-Solder Bezel Bracelet. The enamel cabochons in the bracelet are examples of working with decals, liquid enamel, controlled over-firing and firescale decoration.

To be entered in the drawing, become a follower of my blog, leave a comment about what you're looking forward to learning or doing in 2013, and post the giveaway on your blog or on facebook.  I'll randomly draw the winner on New Year's Day!  I hope you win, but if for some reason you don't, the DVD's can be found at Amazon and should be available any day now!  Good luck!

Squeeee, a DVD! Either of these would be awesome! I have your Painting with Fire book, and a DVD would allow me to see the nuances of the work! In 2013, I hope to actually begin work with enamels instead of just wishing to do it! Thank you so much for this giveaway! Happy New Year!

Hey! Even though I do enameling I'd love to get a dvd to see what I am doing right or wrong! 2013 is the year I expand my talents and techniques and move up to even bigger shows.

My plans for 2013 are to learn how to enamel and work with resin! I might have to get these dvds to learn, even if I don't win. Thanks for the giveaway. :) Happy New Year!

Michael's Musings said...

I have tried the enamel on steel method with mixed results. The colors are beautiful and the shading and mix are just what I want but occasionally the enamel will "pop" off after a few days. The pieces haven't been flexed or otherwise distorted. Maybe if I get one of these DVDs I will learn how to do it properly and prevent this problem.

Barbara Colberg said...

Torch enameling sounds interesting.
I don't know that much about it but would love to learn. Thanks for the opportunity.

@Palimpa Lim
Thank you so much for that nice compliment!

Barbara Lewis said...

@Sandra Graves / Isis Rising
Sandra, Looking forward to it!

Barbara Lewis said...

@Michael's Musings
A couple of things can cause enamel to pop off. First, if the metal isn't hot enough. I mean, it really has to glow orange and then the enamel has to be put on QUICKLY! Second, the metal may be incompatible with the enamel. Third, it's important to keep fairly equal thicknesses of enamel on both sides of the piece, if not, the enamel will chip off as a result of warping. This doesn't have to be a scientific measuring of the thickness of enamel, but if you apply lots of millefiori and lump enamel to one side and not the other, this could result in chipping. Why don't you join me at www.paintingwithfire.ning.com, where it's all about torch firing. It's a great resource and the members are very friendly!

Barbara Lewis said...

@nancy vantassellNancy, the time in the studio was great and the DVD allowed me to focus on problem areas for students. Having taught this technique for a while now, I know the areas that need more focus. You can do this!

I'd love a chance to win a dvd (both to learn and to have a fun new product to review on my blogs). Have been wanting to enamel for ages now. We did do it a few times in school, but nothing too advanced considering we were only 11-12 years old at the time and there wasn't much time to dedicate to it.

Other than enamelling, I'm mostly looking forward to experimenting more with mixing materials and techniques in various way. Just pull out my stash of assorted craft, bead and jewellery-making supplies and combine them in new ways.

2013 will be my year of GAS!

I've worked with butane and propane - plus oxy/acetylene (husband's GIANT welding set-up) and I've loved experimenting with Thompson's enamel assortment on screens and tripods, so far.

I got your book, Barbara, as soon as it was available - I just got my MAPP-Pro gas canister, FireWorks torch & beads (thanks, Barbara!) for Christmas and am anxious to try your immersion method - and to see if my enamel colors are "truer," as I keep hearing about. I'm looking forward to trying liquids, decals, etc., etc.

Next, I'm hoping to decide on a "real" jewelry torch system (combination gases) - maybe for my birthday in Feb., expand my skills with it - then on to the next gas!

Looked at both DVD previews - they both look GREAT! It'll be hard to choose only one, but I promise I'll force myself if I win!

Thanks SO much for this giveaway, Barbara - I've followed your blog and ning group since the beginning and appreciate your commitment and willingness to share your knowledge with all of us!
